Restyling the good old Newbb Templates – Part II

Newbb 4.0

Regretfully it will only be compatible with Xoops version 2.3.1, nevertheless people are eager to upgrade their forums and Xoops version.

The files:
It seems version 4.0 already beholds css driven templates. A closer look learns us that one of the most important files (the newbb_item.html) drives on a nice “css only” structure, which is,.well,….very nice indeed. It even beholds the standard, Xoops widely spread, classes and id’s (head, odd, even etc,..) which is even better because they are spread and defined all over a lot of Xoops themes.

Let’s summarize the files we are going to change and/or alter.

A Lot of files!? But don’t be scared, we will go through them one at a time.

Preparations
Of Course we can’t start without having a nice development area so we can view the current templates. Currently we’re setting up the environmentwhich will only display the forum. We are not going to use a theme yet because it can effect our judgments. Later on we’ll try to past it within a dozen of themes. Still having fun?:) (BTW, loving the spelling checker of Wordpress, makes my life so much easier)

Xoops Newbb Module

Since I made a custom forum template which fits the new Xoops.nl design I really had a love/hate relationship with the Newbb module templates. Nevertheless, I’m hooked on breaking my brains and bring a bit of usability back into this great module. The upcoming weeks I’m going to produce a nice set of new module templates based on the working version from Xoops.nl. Secondly, the templates will be completely css driven,.,.sounds like fun to me.

Whoohoo,.a new layout, a new CMS, a new logo, a new start!

Old Core74 layout

Great things are going to happen to Core74. Soon we may present and welcome our new logo meaning the start of a concept we worked hard and long on. A concept that isn’t a revolution, but more a search into our hearts. We’ve planned to enjoy the web once again and embrace new technology, movements and wild ideas.
First, we are going to say goodbye to a content management system we’ve loved for a long time, for us it’s time to move on and explore the cms world once again, and we have found a new love, but more of that later.

Second, we’re going to create a virtual statue of all the people that have influinced us in all of our work, which will be,..well interesting to read, and may be a good start for beginning web artists.

Thirdly,.we are going to promote our hosting facilities. Born from the needs from design clients, grown as a stable platform and gateway towards internet.

Four. We again going to build free and commercial themes and templates. Themes for a diversity of content manegement systems, and the lower priced (x)html templates.

So visit us regularly, have a nice cup of coffee and we’ll speak to you soon;)

ICMS & Xoops Xhelp module priority images revival.

For our sister website we make use of the nice ticketsystem Xhelp. And although we like the module very much, the graphics seemed a bit out of order.

Normally we use the famous famfamfam icon set to spice things up, but for the priority buttons we could not find an equal match, so, we made some of our own.

Just copy the image files into the /path/to/xhelp/images directory. For your own sake, make sure you backup your old images(!), you have been warned.If you use these images, it’’s always a nice thing to link to us. You may use these images for personal or commercial use, alter them or send them to a friend as a present, but you may not sell them in anyway.

Oh boy, sick for a few days and already missing great news. They did it again, ImpressCMS released their second RC (release candidate).

One month after the first beta release, the second beta is released. All the boys and girls of ImpressCMS have worked very hard to bring the second release to life.

After a roaring month of development, the developers of ImpressCMS have released their first beta of the forked XOOPS content management system.

Although it’’s at beta level right now and people aren”t advised to use it in a production environment have a look at the impressive changelog here.

Xoops & Module “X” adding handy anchors – Part I

When you look at, for instance, the news module you see a nice summary of articles which end almost always with “read more | comments”. These text links, when clicked, will guide you to the rest of the article. Nice ain”t it?

Ever wondered why there are two text links pointing to the same link? Although the names “Read More” and “Comments” don”t translate as the same. Read More means, well uhh, read the rest of the article, whilst Comments would take you to the, uhh comments. So why aren”t they pointed correctly? I think there are two options that could explain the small flaw. One: developers are lazy? Two: it’’s cross platform (Xoops core & module). This week we will try to post a nice solution which will really strip the two links, and make more sense of them in general.

Will ImpressCMS impress Xoops?

I can almost hear you thinking. Yep, it’’s true, and although communications are happening behind close doors (still), it’’s out in the open for sure: Xoops will once again be forked.

Why?

Well, it seems a lot of important people of the Xoops community aren”t able to work together anymore, so it’’s almost logical that this would happen. I don”t want to go into the political details, because I really don”t care about the Xoops-politics, I only care that there is a production of many tools that will make me, my clients, and all other contributors happy in “any way what so ever”.

So you are part of the fork?

Yes, after talking to some friends about the switch I can tell you that I also will try to contribute my knowledge to ImpressCMS.

Does this mean you”ll stop supporting Xoops?

Not at all, I will carry on designing websites for Xoops, I just have extended my base of content management systems. Furthermore, I will keep supporting the Dutch Xoops Community in all possible manners.Discuss the news post here!
