Although the overall design is finished we still have a lot of work to do. We just want you to witness the finalization.

What is still to come?

Soon a new templates section will emerge beholding free and payed themes/templates for use in WordPress or ImpressCMS websites. A section with only static Html templates will also be present.

Re- Relaunch of the SDoo website

It’s the first time I really tried to fully utilize ImpressCMS and with help from their great community I think I achieved my goal.

But what was my goal anyway? Well, we all know how the most gaming sites look like, driven on massive graphics based upon game stories or communities. I ignored this fact by building an environment using text and white/gray spaces. The only real game like visual feature would be the hand drawed Duck which was made by David Wallace (thanks David for borrowing your art).

Of course this isn’t true. For instance, look at the main WordPress website, can you see any graphical elements other than the logo,.,mm,.not really! So what’s the power that makes this website so great? Let me enlighten you a bit, it’s the well chosen (web)font and the positioning of the text.

A well chosen web-font in combination with a well chosen text placement can make all the difference. I will try to make a good looking website using only html & css based techniques without any Photoshop build images. Give me a few weeks and I will try to stun you.

WordPress 2.7

Browsing the net shows us a lot of rumors about the upcoming WordPress v2.7 release with the re-designed back-end. It’s an “Apple’s keynote” once again. Can’t wait!

Pre release of Template “Core74 Blocked”

Core74 Blocked

Some bugs are still present but it should just work fine in all modern browsers.

Template includes:

Valid CSS and Strict Xhtml Code
JQuery library including the Innerfade plugin (rotating top right images with a bite)
PNG fix for old (IE6) browsers
fixed width (800px content)
sidebars designed to be a paragraphical carrier (p) additional classes will be needed for some CMS

Remember, it’s a pre release. Final release will be published soon. WordPress, ImpressCMS and Xoops versions are planned for mid December.

To table or not to table

Would it be possible to re-create the table using only div classes and id’s without loosing the flexibility (as flexible as a table can be).
Of Course there is nothing wrong using a table and this is just a test-case, and people with visibility disorders are really left in the dark, and who knows how Google will index the page without loosing track etc etc, but, it was real fun.

Restyling the good old Newbb Templates – Part II

Newbb 4.0

Regretfully it will only be compatible with Xoops version 2.3.1, nevertheless people are eager to upgrade their forums and Xoops version.

The files:
It seems version 4.0 already beholds css driven templates. A closer look learns us that one of the most important files (the newbb_item.html) drives on a nice “css only” structure, which is,.well,….very nice indeed. It even beholds the standard, Xoops widely spread, classes and id’s (head, odd, even etc,..) which is even better because they are spread and defined all over a lot of Xoops themes.

Let’s summarize the files we are going to change and/or alter.

Preparations
Of Course we can’t start without having a nice development area so we can view the current templates. Currently we’re setting up the environmentwhich will only display the forum. We are not going to use a theme yet because it can effect our judgments. Later on we’ll try to past it within a dozen of themes. Still having fun?:) (BTW, loving the spelling checker of WordPress, makes my life so much easier)

Xoops Newbb Module

Since I made a custom forum template which fits the new Xoops.nl design I really had a love/hate relationship with the Newbb module templates. Nevertheless, I’m hooked on breaking my brains and bring a bit of usability back into this great module. The upcoming weeks I’m going to produce a nice set of new module templates based on the working version from Xoops.nl. Secondly, the templates will be completely css driven,.,.sounds like fun to me.
